MU Teams Up With Circle BMW in NJ

For the second year in a row, Circle BMW in NJ has loaned a small fleet of convertibles for the Monmouth University Homecoming celebration. The convertibles transported the university’s president, distinguished alumni, Homecoming King and Queen and other MU dignitaries.

The third annual Tour de Fair Haven, a competitive event for cycling enthusiasts, will take place this Sunday, September 18th. The Tour is comprised of six races that will each start and finish at the Fair Haven Firehouse. Participants will ride the course which runs along the scenic Navesink River and through the charming neighborhoods of Fair Haven. Since its inception in 2009, the Tour has grown into a top-ranked race, attracting both regional and national cycling talent. The New Jersey Bicycling Association, the state’s governing body for road bike racing, added the 2011 Tour de Fair Haven to its Garden State Cup series, a 22 race, six month competition that awards the best all around individual and team riders in each class.

Tour de Fair Haven Event Director, Michel Berger, who returns in this role for the third consecutive year, said, “It has been amazing to watch this event grow and to have riders come from as far away as Europe. Participation in the race has increased by 200 percent compared to the first Tour in ’09.” Berger added, “Known for its beautiful downtown setting and scenic course throughout the charming neighborhoods of Fair Haven and along the Navesink River, the Tour has earned the reputation as ‘New Jersey Shore’s Toughest Race.’”

Funds raised through sponsorships of the 2011Tour will benefit Fair Haven’s 100^th anniversary celebration which will occur throughout 2012. Fair Haven Mayor and Foundation of Fair Haven Chairman, Michael I. Halfacre, said, “Hosting a world-class sporting event such as the Tour de Fair Haven is a unique opportunity for both our residents and businesses that allows them to demonstrate our town’s rich community spirit and pride.” Fair Haven’s Centennial Celebration will officially commence on January 1, 2012 at the Borough’s reorganizational meeting. “Given the magnitude of the Tour and the excitement it generates, it was only natural to include it as part of the celebration,” added Halfacre.

The Tour de Fair Haven is a rolling 3.1 mile course comprised of six races with varied distances: CAT 5 (9 mi), CAT (18 mi), Masters 45 and over (24 mi), Masters 35 and over (24 mi), CAT 3 and PRO ½ (36 mi). Winning cash prizes are given for each category with the highest amount going to the most experienced. After receiving Car & Driver 10 Best trophies for the last 19 years in a row, the BMW 3-series recently took home Number 20 for its 2011 offerings.  The 2011 BMW features a new 320-horsepower 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine, with an optional new seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission.  With that, EPA estimated fuel economy ratings improved to 17-19 mpg in the city and 24-28 mpg on the highway.

For 2011, BMW implemented several new exterior changes including a new hood, front and rear fascias and a refreshed twin-kidney grille, while the 335 boasts a restyled front air dam with larger air intakes.  Adaptive Xenon headlights are surrounded with LED lighting, while the rear adds LED taillights. For a tighter ride, BMW’s Active Steering system adjusts turning rate for a given turn of the steering wheel.  For wind-in-the-hair enjoyment, the convertible, and its power retractable hardtop that retracts in just 22 seconds, can’t be beat.

Inside, the 2011 BMW 3-Series models have newly designed (and still-optional) steering-wheel shift paddles for models equipped with automatic transmissions.

As with the 328i, the 2011335is offered with a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions.BMW will continue to make xDrive all-wheel drive available on all 3-series coupes. BMW estimates that the manually-equipped rear-wheel-drive 335 coupe can accelerate to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, with the droptop requiring 5.5 seconds. Add another 0.2 second to each time for the automatics.

To make the BMW335 a track-worthy vehicle, BMW upgraded the cooling system with an additional radiator and also beefed up the engine mounts. Inside are standard sport seats, steel pedals, an M Sport steering wheel, and textured aluminum.  For New Jersey BMW drivers who prefer not to shift for themselves, Circle BMW offers its seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The DCT system is identical to the one in the M3 and comes with steering-wheel-mounted paddle-type shifters.

Across the nation, food banks almost unanimously report dramatic increases in demand for emergency food since last year, averaging 30 percent, mainly by formerly middle class, first-time users and people who have recently lost their jobs.
